I unexpectedly found myself immersed within the personal and social impact that bionic devices have on enabling persons with amputation to return to a more active and healthy lifestyle. In addition to working with research participants, I volunteered at a race clinic hosted by the Challenged Athlete Foundation. After running laps and sprint drills with people who have experienced a lower limb amputation - many due to trauma - I do not believe that these individuals are "challenged". We all experience challenges. How we react and respond are what sets us apart.

My landlady didn't allow pets. It turned out that I could borrow a pet from our county SPCA to bring to senior homes as animal therapy. I was also a micro-chip technician, and chipped a small white poodle-mix. He did not like me. He has since forgiven me - fortunately - because we adopted him! His name is Oliver.

It turned out that after donating a two-foot ponytail, I still had shoulder-length hair.
